According to a Bloomberg Financial report released over the last few days. It appears that Sony to compete will in fact lower the PlayStation 3 huge price tag in all markets sometime next year. Also suggested was to reduce some of manufacture/production of the PS3 to facilitate this price cut.

The Bloomberg reports as well as the Sony End of Q4 public financial statements state that Sony has been taking a big hit every PS3 sold, costs to manufacture a PS3 last year was said to be as high as $690.63 USD. (Some of the reasons for the high manufacturing cost were listed as Blue-Ray drive, large capacity hard-drive and PS2 backwards compatibility issues, as well as Dual-Shock 3 controller integration). The reports say just to compete with the Wii and Xbox 360, the retail price had to drop right from the get go. The price tag ranging from $399.99 to $499.99 USD to pick up a single PS3 depending on what market you are in.

I hope the PS3 gets a price cut Early 2009, but I’m a little skeptical of it because of the more recent interviews with David Reeves where he literally shot down rumors of a price drop in March 09′.

“No we are not going to go down in price; neither are we going to go down in price on PS3 in spring time either. Absolutely not, whatever you might have heard to the contrary”

“As soon as we got the manufacturing price down on PSOne we lowered the price. Same with PS2. But we’re not doing that on PS3 – that’s not the model, even if people are expecting it.”

    http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/12/04/reeves-were-not-dropping-ps3-in-spring-were-ahead-of-360-in-europe/

Since Reeves is the SCEE president, I hope that he was just referring to Europe and not for all territories because the PS3 really needs a $100 price cut Early next year in the U.S. if not Europe…. The way Reeves was talking makes it seem like a PS3 price cut is a LONG way away… at least in Europe.

This is my prediction: Sony “might” drop the PS3’s price in the United States early 2009, and they will drop the PS3’s price in Europe a later time in 2009.

Hey Remy, sorry for being so abrasive before. But its just i read many months back that it was down to almost $400 but now these new numbers are conflicting with that. Its really hard to tell what the truth is anymore.

are u stupid is says “costs to manufacture” them not sell them at stores for that price they had to lower them from the get go cause they knew it would be to much and so to compete with the others (wii,360) they did just that and lowered the ps3 to about there price range. learn how to read

Hey ‘fucksony’. I don’t see ps3 owners bothering to visit 360 sites so why the fuck are you here? Bored of 360 news are? You know it’s time to upgrade and get a reliable console. F***** dumb ass M$ snooper.

    Dear Vokal,

The whole point of the post is that Sony decided to take a loss.for the first 2 year on retail price..not only to compete..but because of the large fan base they might have lost to Nintendo and Microsoft…if they did not make PS3 more realistic…and that is not my opinion that is fact….it cost 35 % more to make then they sold it for….then again…different reports claimed..a little different % depending on where you look…

    Thanks for the comment,

    Remy

    Dear fuckms,

hey there…am a big Sony Fan boy and I look at all the different news stories..not because of work…with BeefJack…but since all of the systems are really head to head…IU enjoy…hearing about the nasty law suites related to Xbox 360’s red ring of death and Nintendo’s DS AC adapter Fire Law Suit…

Thais for the comment and support,

    Remy
